How to find salvaged OMC boat parts step by step. Get Your OMC Model Number There are many different Stern Drive models and many different stern drive manufacturers. The first step in finding the right used OMC boat part is in knowing what model and year your stern drive is. OMC Model numbers can be found in a few places such as on the Engine Valve Covers, Thermostat Housing, Shift Interrupter assembly, or on the fuel filter bracket. If you can't find the OMC tag with the model and serial number then you can always use the year of the boat as a general reference. To find the year that your boat was built you can usually look at the last two digits of the Hull number. The hull number is almost always cast into the gelcoat on the Starboard transom.
If you are looking at the back of the boat you should find the hull number in the upper right corner. Look Up Your Parts Now that you know your OMC Model number and approximate year you can go to an online stern drive parts look-up to find your part numbers.
This way when you do find parts online you will have a better idea if they are the Correct parts for your OMC stern Drive and not a waste of money! Having your OMC part numbers will save you time when you call somewhere for parts.
Shop For OMC Boat Parts I have been working on OMC Stringer Stern Drives for over a decade and in that time I have had to become quite resourceful in finding parts. The Following Shops are the top ten best places, that I have found, to buy Used and Salvaged OMC Boat Parts.
Green Bay Propeller & Marine Salvage© These guys have tons of 1970s and 1980s OMC Stringer Stern Drive parts. Greenbayprop.com has almost every single part for 120 and 140 hp OMC Stern Drives from 1977-1985. Unbelievable selection and everything is guaranteed. John's Boat Place This place has tons of used and new old stock OMC parts such as upper units, lower units, tilt motors, Propellers, exhaust manifolds, and pulleys.
Ebay © When you shop on Ebay you are looking through many different sellers at once. This is a good way to compare OMC parts and used prices, but you have to research each seller that you plan to buy from. If not you could end up buying something that is wrong and not returnable or be waiting for 4 weeks for a part from a seller who was on the other side of the world. South Side Marine This place specializes in OMC parts. They have an extensive inventory of new OMC parts that are not even available any longer.

I have a (suposedly) 1990 OMC outdrive on a 3.0 GM inboard motor in a 1990 Donzi boat. For love or money I can't get ANYTHING what so ever to come up internet searching to identify if this is a regular 'Cobra' OMC lower unit/drive unit or a 'King Cobra' unit. The numbers on the outer case stamp plates are: Serial Number: T0698226 Model Number: 986321. (Thats the other issue - On the Serial number the very 1st number / letter on the plate has been disfigured and I can't tell if it's a LETTER 'T' or a NUMBER '1' there?) I even bought the darn manuals and THEY even show totally different pics and descriptions for the years and model this is supposed to be - The Serial number and model number plate appearsto be the original / unaltered I.D. Plate so I'm pulling my hair out about now trying to figure out why neither come up in any I.D. Search on those numbers?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated - I have to start getting parts for the darn thing and can't until I can freaking identify WHAT exactly I have here. (Just obtained the boat and have been having fits trying to track down the right parts, right?) Thanks in advance for any help!.
290 Answers SOURCE: You are correct about replacing a part. There is no adjustment for the brightness. The control board will have to be replaced. To look up parts for your oven you have to drop the 0 from the number. Try JTP45WW2WW. No one at GE has been able to explain to me why they put the zero in the model number when it is not used to look up parts.
But if you leave it out on a warranty claim, they will reject it because the model number is incorrect. I looked it up on sears.com and repairclinic.com. The part number for the original board is WB27K5301, but that will change to WB27T10292 that has replaced the original. Post back if you have any questions. Thanks/Mike Posted on Nov 29, 2007.
5605 Answers SOURCE: You should have slots on either side of the lowest part of the outdrive, above the skag or fin. There can be a difference if you have what is called a closed cooling system. The closed system has a radiator in front of the engine like an auto. The water from the lake goes through heat exchangers and does not make direct contact with the water in the radiator. The older open system uses lake water directly and it goes through the slots on the lower unit.
Posted on Jun 11, 2009. Bruce, Do you have the serial number of the motor? Reason I ask is twofold. Evinrude started using this model number layout as of 1980. Having said this, something is not making sense with the location of the 'N' in your model number. Those last two letters as of 1980 are the year. Here is the chart.
Letter on top with corresponding year below it. I N T R O D U C E S 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 So. Example 1980= CS 1990= ES 2000= SS 2010= IS You have E8RLNR which breaks down as: E= Evinrude 8= 8hp R= Rope start tiller steering L= 20' shaft N= 2nd year R= 4th year I would expect to see the N in the last spot: 1982= CN 1992= EN etc. Serial number is another way to identify the year. This may hep point you in the right direction.
Hope it helps. Marineengine.com/parts/engine-model-guides/omc-johnson-evinrude-model-number-guide/omc-johnson-evinrude-model-number-guide-00004.html Regards, Fred Sep 26, 2016.
Is the rotor turning? Check your coil and condenser. The OMC drive system uses Micro switches in the linkage.
They switch when the throttle positions are correct. The Micros operate the ignition Module. Some of the outdrive systems have a starter cutout and some have an ignition cutout for the UP positon of the outdrive. The angle of the outdrive is too severe for the U-joints to move so they fix your boat not to start when the outdrive is UP.
Move your outdrive down and see if the igniton comes back. May 14, 2010.
Yes, the ignition switch or ignition wires on the Run side of the switch may be bad. Most people don't know that the Start side of the switch can power the spark plugs. But when you stop cranking and let the key go to Run you can lose the spark to the plugs There is also a safety feature in the OMC system. The micro switches on the linkage have to be adjusted or timed.

This is so the throttle is not set too high to engage the outdrive. So it does a lockout of the module or a lockout of the starter. A second feature prevents starting if the outdrive is up too high. This prevents breaking Ujoints and dangerous planing conditions from an improperly trimmed outdrive. Lower the outdrive. You will see the microswitches, see if the linkage can be moved to line up the contacts. They are simply contact switches and you may have to temporarily disconnect some linkage to test start.
